Goal Setting for the New Year
It’s hard to believe we are starting 2025! Like every year, January comes with the sense of a fresh start, but what do you want to make of this fresh start? You can begin by taking stock of the past year and consider what you think is worth continuing or developing. Are there new goals you want for this year? How do you know what goals you want to make? How can you actually stick to your goals this year?
The trick is to engage in multidimensional goal setting.
Here is your Wisdom of the Whole Goal-Setting Guide for 2025:
1. Find a quiet spot where you can safely close your eyes and have a few moments of silence.
2. Take a deep breath (or two) and focus on your heart center.
3. Next, ask your heart, “What do you want in 2025?"
4. Take another breath (or two) and see what images, sensations, inner knowing comes into your awareness.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to determine any additional insights and then jot them down.
6. Reflect on what you’ve uncovered from the exercise and formulate your goals for 2025.
7. “Try on” your goals by standing somewhere in the room to see how your goals feel on a mind/body/spirit level. You could even explore a deeper level of knowing through movement, dancing, or singing your goals.
8. Make sure to calculate how well your goals are aligned with your sense of purpose and values. To what degree do your goals help you accomplish what you came into this world to do and be? ex. 50%, 80%, 100%, or 10%?
9. Imagine that you have a magic wand. Wave it around yourself to change your goals for the better. See what shifts.
10. Return to your original seated position in the room and jot down any further insights.
11. After this new awareness, and once you've decided on/clarified your goals, consider affirmations and/or a vision board to accompany your goals, so that you can return to them daily.
12. To stay on track, set reminders for yourself to spend time with your goals/affirmations/vision board. Using imagery, focus your attention on your goals, so that you can see and feel the experience of that goal being achieved. Note your body sensations during the process.
13. Set up accountability partners. ex. Do you have a trusted friend or colleague that can check in with you on your progress?
14. Find support through peer coaching or professional coaching.
15. Take note of new insights/ideas/inspiration that come into your awareness — things that would help you move forward on your goals, and then take small next steps toward positive action that truly feels right.
